Satire:
the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.
Orwell used satire in Animal farm as a way to voice his opinion on the corrupt soviet government.
Pigs
Orwell uses pigs in Animal farm to depict the characteristics of lazy people in society. The pigs represent people who are lazy and use others to get ahead. The pigs in Animal Farm, just like people we all may know do things in a way that will help themselves but without having to do much work. For example the pigs assign the other animals to work their lives away for the good of the other animals and prosperity of the farm, while the pigs just sit and watch and pretend to "manage" the farm and workers for the well being of everyone. The pigs also represent leaders becoming power hungry. In society to much power in any one person's hand is a recipe for disaster.
Napoleon displays irony throughout the book, promising the animals a better life without Mr. Jones in control. When in reality the animals were all better off with Mr. Jones in power than with the Pigs in control.
HOrses
Orwell uses satire when using horses in Animal Farm. The horses represent two different kinds of people. Orwell uses Boxer to represent the working class. The same working class that is on the bottom of the social ladder. The working class is the foundation and does all the work that the upper class profits from. In the book, Boxer works hard and the farm prospers because of Boxer hard work.
Orwell uses Mollie the horse as a representation of vain, self centered people in society. Mollie isn't very concerned with anyone other than herself throughout the book. She only is concerned with the fact that she will not have sugar cubes or ribbon for her hair anymore. Mollie leaves animal farm and goes to another farm so she can be pampered. Orwell uses Mollie as a way to show his disgust for vain people in society.

Sheep
In society there will always be leaders and their will always be followers. Sheep have always been the animal that represent characters who are not very intelligent, or blind followers. The sheep in Animal Farm are used to display the ignorance of people in society. Orwell ridicules that people are to quick to believe and follow people. He ridicules society through humor of the book by showing that people in society are much like the sheep in the sense that some people don't think for themselves rather they follow the crowd.
Hens
The hens are satirical for rebellion. The hens rebelled against Napoleon. Orwell used Hens I believe because hens are defenseless animals. The hens in Animal Farm tried to rebel against Napoleon but they were stopped quickly. Orwell used the hens as the characters who rebelled against Napoleon in reference to people in society who rebel against the main government authorities.
